Since it is a public holiday in Ireland, I am sure lot of people must have partaken in the festivities.

History is that this person tried to change and convert Pagans to Christians in the 5th century ,which must have been surely daunting.

He converted the nobles, who set an example which the people followed.He was very skillful in as much as he approached the chieftains first,converted and changed.

St. Patrick's mission was not only successful, Ireland was almost entirely Christian when he was alive.

The first hymn to be composed in Ireland was composed in his honor. It was called appropriately enough, Hymn in Patrick's Praise, was composed by St. Sechnall, and ran to 23 stanzas.
